Why Piano?

The study of the piano provides an excellent foundation for all other musical endeavors. Because of the visual layout of the keyboard, the basic elements of music theory are easier to comprehend. Because of its broad range and harmonic capability, the piano is the most versatile instrument. It can be played as a solo instrument, as part of a larger ensemble, or used to accompany other soloists. Because it develops the ability to read in both the bass and treble clef, piano students often excel in the study of other instruments (which only use one clef). Children who study piano are more likely to continue playing into their adult years. Many of the great conductors and composers were also accomplished pianists. Many of today’s successful pop musicians are accomplished keyboard players.
